Hi,
I am running compaq nx9040 laptop with XP Professional + SP2.
The exact error displayed on blue-screen is like "STOP: 0x000000024".
After doing improper shutdown, suddenly I get blue screen every startup. I have tried every subsequent startup option offered after that: last known good configuration, safe-mode etc, but the same result.
I have then tried booting from XP CD, and using the recovery console.
Cannot run chkdsk because some file cannot be found either on local machine or CD. Interestingly, it's not chkdsk.exe that cannot be found, but some executable with similar name. I have located it in the CD and tried entering the exact path, but that does not work. I have also tried running that same file on another XP professional machine and it tells me it cannot be run in a 32-bit context.
When attempting to list content of C:, I get some message like "Error while trying to enumerate file".
I have tried running fixboot and fixmbr, still no change.
To me, it seems as though I have serious problems with my file system. What should my next step be? I just want to get the files of the disk is all.
Thanks for assistance
Ben
