Blocking xxx-555-1212

Hello,

I am looking to block all calls to 555-1212. I set up the following short codes to trigger Clear Call which do seem to work:

[9]xxx5551212
[9]1xxx5551212

I just want to verify if this is the best way to handle this task.

[9] is not used anymore form 4.0 and higher.

Like Tom said, use a Barred function code or if you have VMPro be very creative and route it to a nice module :)

So am I better just creating a short code like 9xxx5551212 and 91xxx5551212 with the Barring function, or should I do this in ARS?

Yes, and just do it in system shortcodes no need to clutter your ARS with barred calls, unless you bypass system shortcodes with User/User rights then it needs to be done in ARS :)
