Dear Frends
can some1 help me with restricting the use of MSN,Windows messenger, without letting the user users know that they've been stopped from using the messenger (they should just know that messenger is installed on their PC and just not working well).

i need some registry key or some script to do that. plz help me.

thanks a lot

I'm on a workgroup and some of the systems are on WinXP whiles others on Win2000. also i dont want the use of GPO.

Why not block TCP PORTS 6891-6900 through your router (I assume you have a router)...

Joe

no dear i dont have a router but we'r simply sharing an internet connection. and plz let me know if applicable where can i do that TCP Ports blocking

How are you sharing an internet connection? Is it a high speed connection cable/dsl?

If so, chance are you have a firewall/router in use to share it. If so, you should be able to access it following the instructions for the device.

If you are using Windows ICS, I suggest looking into IPSec, maybe. A better way may be to connect to each machine and access the local security settings, in there you can restrict Messenger and MSN. You can connec to a remote PC by running MMC from the run line.Click on file, Add/Remove snapins and add the GPO snapin, you will have a choice of connecting to a remote machine. (even though you said you don't want to use a GPO, it may be easier this way).

dear frends

i'v found the option to allow specific ports only in my lan connection but theres no such option for which ones not to be allowed. However in this case i know the ports which i've to block.
