Hi,

I have a network of 60 Computers running Win98 on a NT4 Domain. We have strict policies regarding updating AntiVirus files so a deadline is given. If this is not met i disable their User Account so they cannot lon onto the Domain. Of course they worked out that they can log in as someone else (knew passwords) so blocking their account did no real good. Changing passwords still don't work as they love to tell each other!

All the Workstations have Private Static IP's for many reasons. I would like to ask if anyone knows a way to either block the IP Address or Machine Name so it will not Authenticate on the NT4 box irrespectice of the Username used ???

Regards,

Greg

Create a login script that installs update antivirus definitions.

Anyways, these systems are all technically "connected" by IP whether or not domain authentication is performed. A user could just hit ESC to get into Windows. So blocking logins won't necessarily prevent viruses from spreading.

If your W98 clients and NT4 DCs are on different subnets, you could block traffic, but if they are on the same subnet, you cannot.

Just out of curiosity, how are you checking the computers antivirus definition version?

Hi,

We are encountering the same problem regarding the updating of virus DAT files. I am also thinking of Wallst32 suggestion (login script), it will definitely solve the problem. However, I am new in scripting and I tried to search for possible sample of a script that I can modify to automatically update the virus definitons of users, but im not successful.

In this regard, anyone has a login script that he/she can share to solve this antivirus auto-update? Thanks in advance...
