Hola,
I'm new to this whole phone systems thing. Programmer by trade, but now I've been asked to block features on a phone because the children ( I work at a school ) have figured out how to use the features. Is there a way to disable the feature key? If not..does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Go into System Programming

From there
Terminal&Sets -> (set ID)
Restrictions -> Set restrns -> Set lock

Change this to FULL (or PARTIAL)

Full set lock will prevent them from reprogramming the keys and speed dial numbers associated with the locked set and it will also prevent them from making any status changes on the phone like call forwarding, voice call deny or DND (even if the set has those keys on it) but that may or may not solve your problem.

Some features and services can be denied in system programming like line access, paging, handsfree etc. but many features will still work on a locked set.

Are there some specific features or services you want to deny?

Now that I think about it, they will probably need to turn call forwarding on at some point. They're using a nortel m7100 so there aren't many keys on it..would it be possible to program just one feature to the extra button, and then disable the feature key all together?

thanks for the help...

You can't disable the feature key but you could program the only programmable button on the 7100 set as a call forward button and then lock the set down. Many features would be disabled but some will still work.

So again I have to ask, are there any specific features or services you are trying to deny?

What exactly is it that they are doing that is creating a problem?

There are not any specific features that I am trying to block. They were pressing keys which allowed them to dial the last number...which changing the restrictions took care of. I believe it was Allow Last Number or something of the sort.

I think I will just leave the phone alone for now...I programmed the one button to a forward key. If they have any other issues I will handle them as they arise.

thanks again
