We have a service called mailwatch which filters our mail before it reaches our email server. I am able to block most unwanted email this way, however there are a few domains that are sending mail directly to our email server.

Question one:

how can they do this when our records are pointing to the mailwatch server?

Question two:

How can i block certain domains on the exchange server?

Thanks,

Jim

What do the message headers show? Are they routed directly to the Exchange server? Is the exchange server listed in DNS with a MX secondary record? If it is directed straight to your Exchange server IP then the external service won't stop it of course.

You can add the domain to the message filtering in IMS

IMS > Connections > MEssage Filtering (in Accept Connections Section)

They are routed directly to our exchange server, which is why I needed to figure out how to block them at that level. I have been adding the IP addresses to the routing restrictions section of IMS "specify hosts that can never route mail". Does this accomplish the same thing as your suggestion? What is the difference?

Thanks....Jim

Hi,

I have the same problem and I did IMS > Connections > MEssage Filtering (in Accept Connections Section)but the messages continue to pass. I am obliged to use "Only for host using ?"

Thank you
