My organization is looking to block the caller ID for a group of about 65 numbers all assigned to the same PRIs(2). Verizon has now informed me, after they said they could, that they can't block individual caller ID on the PRIs. Has anyone figured out a way to have Caller ID blocked where no number is displayed on a small group of numbers and the remainer of the DIDs display their caller ID?

Are you talking about incoming caller-id or outgoing caller-id?

If outgoing, why not just just change the external phone number mask to something fake like 800-555-1212?

We use SBC for our PRIs and we can put whatever number we choose and that is what is passed.

for example, our conference room phones all have the external phone number mask of our main line (not their extensions).

Same with our executive staff.

Its is outgoing Caller ID. This Office is for our version of Internal Affairs. So the numbers have to be blocked so no one can tell when that its their office calling.

you can create specific CSS to be used by that department when you dial and inside those create route patterns ro be used just by those groups. In the route pattern you can choose an option to block outgoing caller ID

When I try to block with the route pattern it displays the default numbe ron the PRIs.

thats because you have the "caller id dn" setup on the gw lines! thats what displayes the main number also your "calling party presentation" is set to allowed! what it should be set to is default! in that case the route pattern should override the PRI settings and block the call!

I have blocked Internal Caller ID by running the calls through a Translation Pattern and set the Calling Line ID Presentation to Restricted. I don't know if this would work on External Calling Party ID or not. Worth a try. Internal people get 'Unknown Number

Internal really Doesn't matter. We have alot off site facilities that are not apart of our Telephony Cluster. We need the external phone mask to read Private or Unknown Number. We tired doing this via Verizon but they can't block a specific group of number on the PRIs without block everyone else.

I did it for Internal calls (CEO didn't want the factory people having his number) by placing a Translation pattern with number of 'XXXX" so it worked for my 4 digit internal callers. You could build it with a pattern of something like '*67.9XXXXXXXXXX' then put the Calling Party Presentation as 'Restricted' then strip the *67 also in the Translation Pattern. If someone wanted to block their CallerID they just dial *67 + the number just like at home. Or do it in the RP by prefixing the called number with *67 and let the telco block it at a charge but this would block ALL CallerID. I've never tried this but it sounds right. Hope it helps.
