Hello,

I'm having problems with a small group of users that continue to visit myspace during work hours.

I'm running windows 2003 server. is there a way to create a policy that denies access to that url and apply the policy to certain users only?

Please advice.

Rgds.

hehehe just edit their hosts file and make it point to a website you run that tells them to stop trying to go to myspace. ;p

Although I am sure there are many more fundamental ways to do it, this seems like the most comical to me. Good luck!

That is funny and could take awhile to do if you have a lot of workstations...
I would either creat an ACL on your firewall blocking (in and out traffic) to the IP Address to myspace. Or implement a Proxy server that allows you to control what sites your users are allowed to visit from your workstations.

Thanks for the reply Cstorms.

Unfortunately for me these users have to use different computers all the time. I was hoping that I could take care of this by Group Policy if at all possible.

Could add a new forward lookup zone in DNS called myspace.com then add a hostA record for a bunk ip then they would get nuttin when they went to this would not be user specific, it would affect everyone.

just a thought,

I like that idea Roadkill as it would be easy to setup and really eliminate the problem, a star for you for a unique idea!

You are welcome. Just remember thats not the best solution in the world. If your users have half an ounce of brains they will figure out they can use an IP address to access the site bypassing dns all together. best solution would be a firewall that can do url filtering or a proxy. but this will stop the real dumb ones which might be good enough.

Thanks Roadki11,

I'll give that a try.
