We have Exchange 2000 working great both sending and recieving email to and from the organization. I am looking for a way to create a group of users that would only be able to send and receive email from within the organization and not out to the internet. Any help would be appreciated.

First, create the group with the users that you want to deny access to sending mail to the internet.

Second, create an SMTP connector with:
1. an address space of *, if you want it to match everything on the internet
2. on the Delivery Restrictions tab of the connector, add the group to the "Reject messages from:" box.

This procedure may need to be modified to suit your local use. How does e-mail leave your Exchange organization, now?

jbud thanks for the quick response.
Our current email leaves exchange via an SMTP connector with the address space of *. If I add this group to the reject messages will this stop them from sending and recieving from the internet or only sending??

Thanks

Only sending, I left out the receiving part. Blocking receiving is going to require more gymnastics. You can set inbound message restrictions on the Exchange General tab of the group object.

Thanks I will give this a shot. Will I need to start and stop SMTP or anything or will it update automatically?
