Block all internet with the hosts file

Is it possible to block anything and everything bound for anything http, https, www, *.com, *.net, etc using the hosts file?

Got a setup where I need to block a particular pc from the internet entirely, yet allow them to use the local networks printer. All done by IP.

I see you can add websites one by one to the hosts file, but it's going to take me a while to add every single website out there to this guys text file.... (joking of course)

You can do it from the host file, but it would be time comnsuming, you could try this though;

Open up Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Connections >Lan Settings. Choose use proxy and set its address to 127.0.0.1 and 1 in the port box.

Basically it loops all requests back to the box itself, although you may have to find another way to install updates for the software and OS.

If you connect to a router to access the internet you could also block the machines mac address from outgoing requests

you could just put a bogus proxy server address in

when my daughter was a teen I blocked port 80 to her IP address on the router. This let her still check her email and use the printer...though she could not see HTML pages.
this was a very effective way of blocking the net.

I forgot to add you can change the gateway in the network setup to refer to a non existent ip address and that will stop all internet and keep the local network. this also works with the DNS server too.
