I have found that it is not a good idea to include a flashing field on a display. Some people are adversly affected by a flashing field, others simply cannot read one.
I have found it to be better to have some characters adjacent to the field be flashing.

Blinking fields usually indicate some sort of distress. In most situations that is not the message you want to send to the user.
Try looking into reverse video and other highlighting methods that your terminal supports.
