Help. My bosses daughter (teenager) apparently opens e-mails containing viruses. Her computer will not even boot up on a regular basis. I have tried several times today and only made it to the desk top 1 time. The other times, as the computer comes on, the cd starts spinning then I get nothing, just a big blank screen, the stupid thing won't even access the floppy drive so I can boot off of it. Any one have any suggestions so I can clean this machine up so at least somebody can use it?
Oh, when I reached the desk top, I clicked on an application and the computer just froze up, can't even do a Cntrl-Alt-Del.

When it gets that bad, a process of using fdisk to delete any partitions then recreate them and format then install the Operating System and any programs would be the best thing to do.

I've had to do several in the last 3 weeks because 'supposedly intelligent' persons opened E-Mails.

One thing I do in Outlook Express is go to View, Layout... and uncheck the Preview Pane. Some viruses are around that can infect a computer just by reading the message, don't have to be attachments.

Ok, stupid question time. If I can't get the machine to boot off of a floppy then how can I get to fdisk?

if you boot off a win98 startup disk then just use the fdisk command at the command prompt.

Check the boot order in BIOS and ensure that the floppy drive comes before the hard drive.

Ok, here is something else that is happening. Most of the time I can't even get the stupid thing to complete a video signal. Maybe one in ten tries. I think I need to send this puppy to the shop.

Why is it always "little sisters" and "daughters" that cause trouble...?
Or maybe it's not even true...
If a PC refuses to start up but it succeeds every now and then it could well be a faulty power supply.

I was thinking it had something to do with the power supply but the fan starts and it tries to access the cd drive even though the signal never makes it to the monitor.
