blank screen?

Everytime I try to install Windows xp Pro on my other machine it works but NEVER boots. It installs just fine but after finishing it restarts and you get the windows logo and then when you should get the logon it just shows a blank black screen. I've tried everything I can think of to make this work. Can someone PLEASE help me?

After several hours of messing around I tried installing directx 8.0 and rebooted and this worked.
