I've be drafted to help run a blackboard server and do not know how. The administrator has quit and I have been drafted to take over. Need help immediately. How and how often do you do a backup. I have no experience with running a server, but i am quit to learn, someone please send me some info on this.

There are 3 blackboard producst listed on Which one are you running? My previous experience with blackboard was the ELearning System, but it ran on Solaris platform. It can also be supported in Linux. Both makes use of MySQL database to store the data. It also makes use of the Webserver to host the ELearning system. Veritas or Arcserve backup should probably do the trick for backing up Unix or Linux. How often you need to backup really depends on how critical is your data. I had no idea they had an NT/2000 version. My guess is, for an NT/2000 version, they would probably be using MSSQL for the database.

Hey, I run Blackboard level 1, version 5.5 on Windows 2000. If you do not know anything about Blackboard, contact your account rep with Blackboard. Have the technical contact on your contract updated to you. Then, get a login for the blackboard support website. You can download all documentation from there.

Under 2k/IIS, you're running SQL 7 or 2k. The content that you need to backup is the SQL server database, named bb50, which is in your Blackboard\Data\ folder. You will need to setup backups through SQL Server, and have it place the backup databases in a shared folder that is accessible by the server that has the tape backup. If the tape backup is on the blackboard server, simply back up the SQL server backup folder.
