Can someone outline the steps to get the simulator to work? I have downloaded the device simulator as well as the MDS simulator, but I haven't been able to connect, using the internet, to any sites. I keep getting a message "Unable to connect to the selected Mobile Data Service, please try again later." Should I be able to pull up a site from the internet on the simulator?

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure what BES is -- Blackberry Enterprise Server, maybe? I haven't ever used a Blackberry or the simulator, but I've used other device simulators like the Openwave WAP simulator and the Palm simulator. Basically on those I just started them up, connected to the internet and could reach sites as if using the device (assuming I was connecting to an appropriate site, like a WAP site for OpenWave or a Palm-friendly site for Palm).
Sorry to be a newbie -- Two questions:
1.) What is necessary to get the simulator working? I have the device simulator and the MDS (I think) simulator -- need anything else?
2.) Are there only certain types of sites I can reach with Blackberry (WAP, etc.), or can it display all sites?

There is a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) Simulator that needs to be running on the same machine as the Blackberry simulator for it to work. Then if you run MDS as well you will be able to view most websites as long as the computer has internet access.

I have a word document that outlines the steps needed to run the simulator on a local pc without the BES. Will not e-mail or access web, but good for screen shots and training. E-mail me at dhand@alston.com & I'll send it to you. Here it is without the screenshots.

1.) Open the Blackberry Simulator by going to Start | Programs | Blackberry Handheld SDK 2.1 | Blackberry Simulator

2.) Click, configure, select Mobitex Handheld.

3.) Choose configure | Options

4.) Enter the following PIN in the general tab.

5.) Make the default application directory follow this path: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Handheld SDK 2.1\lib\mobitex

6.) Select applications to load when starting simulator. Browse to this folder: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Handheld SDK 2.1\dll\mobitex

7.) Select all the .dll’s on this page.

8.) The following screen will appear, choose cancel.

9.) Deselect all of the “prompt” messages.

10.) Run the simulator.
