Black screen, often closes app.

In windows sometimes the screen goes black and the monitor signal goes then reappears after a bout 1-2 seconds, some times closing the app / game.

Geforce 2 GTS Pro,
Athlon xp 2000+,
Abit KT333 mother board,
512 266 DDR (running a 2CL but is in fact 2.5CL)

I hope one of you out there can help me as this is quite frustrating. I believe that the problem is a hardware problem because it also happens in Linux as well as Windows XP.

This happened to me while playing Half Life. It ended up being a driver problem. Once I re-installed the driver it seemed to go away.

It is not a software problem, it happens in linux as well.
