Installed Norton 2002 on two different Windows 2000 PCs. Immediately started getting the following error when closing out of Word or Excel (Office 2000 Premium) (and only for Word and Excel not for any other applications):

"WINWORD.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."

If I uninstall NAV, the problem goes away. Re-install it and the problem comes back. Have run the office repair tool (and have wiped the office registry settings out before doing so) as well as Windows 2000 SP2. Neither had any impact on the problem. Have turned off NAV autoprotect and turned off the script blocking - no effect. Whatever is causing the problem is fundamental to Word, Excel and NAV.

Can't find anything in the Symantec knowledge base that is even close and the MS knowledge base gives me nothing similar either. The errors only happen when you close out of the programs. Anybody run into a problem like this? What did you do to fix it?

Thanks,

Thanks Hasit.

While I'm still not sure what is causing the problem, at least turning off the NAV Office plugin makes the symptoms go away. Your post was very helpful. Thanks a bundle.

Tackman,

Similar posts detailing problems caused by NAV have been posted on this forum, and I did not see any solutions provided. Have a quick scan on the MS and Symantec site also yielded nothing (other than the same results as I have already listed).

You might want to check back periodically (the more the merrier! :)) to see if a solution has been posted.

Just some follow-up information. I think this is macro-related. Just yesterday encountered a problem making ACT 2000 work with Office XP (specifically Word) for a client. Specifically it would not allow mouse access into documents created with word templates launched by Act (for some reason, you could tab through and edit it with the keyboard no problem, but the mouse would not work with Word in general). Downloaded the Act XP patch. Didn't help. Found a solution on the Symantec site that looked like a winner. Applied it and no dice.

Then I thought to myself - hey, why don't I try turning off the NAV Office plugin! Sure enough, that was what was interfering with things. Basically, If you are running NAV 2002 and encounter a problem with Macros working incorrectly or not at all in Office try turning off the NAV Office plug-in. It will sometimes fix the problem. Just wanted to post this for posterity. Enjoy all!
