Hi,

Looking at a strange MSN messenger issue on my PC. Was looking in the registry and found a key called MessengerWuzHere. This sits in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\....\Software\Microsift\Outlook Express\5.0\Rules.

This seems a little odd, as I am running outlook express 6.

Is this something that I should be concerned with? It seems odd that a Microsoft key would have a 'WUZ' in the name.

Thanks

Information on this key is fairly thin, but I found a couple of threads in Google Groups that may shed some light. The top hit seems possible if you've recently un / reinstalled one of Micro$oft's messenger products.

I'd also suggest running a scan using Microsoft's AntiSpyware beta product if you have Win2k or WinXP just as a precaution.

Thanks TazUk,

Had a look at a few of the links before I posted the original question. Spybot and adaware did not have a problem with it. Will try the antispyware as well and see.

What I was trying to fix is that there seems to be 2 versions of msn messenger running on the PC - one of which starts up autmagically - yet never appears in the systray, though both versions show as a process in task manager. So had a look through the registry after playing with msconfig and found this key.

Will keep looking...
