Hi, i have a Compaq EVO n800c (portable) and some hacker, i think, puted a password for starting Windows.I wanted to repair Windows with my vendor's CD i got but can't find the boot order in the BIOS menu. Can somebody help me find a solution?
Thanks for the advice, i must confused or something.I found boot order and there is Notebook Multibay and Notebook Hard drive to place in first and second position.Sorry if i ask a stupid question but which should i place in first position to boot from the CD.I thought that it's Notebook Multibay but does't look like CD boot and i did it anyway but nothing happened. Is there anything else i must do or press?Help me please!
Does this "Notebook Multibay" have the option for floppy as well as CD input?
This sounds like the correct option as a first boot device.
Have you tried another bootable CD in case your CD itself is faulty?
Will your Notebook start in Safe Mode? Maybe the built-in Administrator User can be entered with a blank password allowing you to fix up your problems without resorting to a clean install?
Thank you for responding me inney!
There is no boot from CD option or boot from any device. There is boot options where there is boot order with multibay and hard drive to place in first or second position. There is another menu where i can enable and dissable boot fom CD and boot from floppy.I don't have a flopy device so i dissabled it.I don't have another bootable CD so i can't know where the fault is.It seems that there is no solution but can'tbe that bad. It's old but not that old.
I think i tried everything, so is there any other way to reinstall the OS or erase it?
Thnak u all for responding me, but u all missundersand it.I'm not english so probably it's my fault.I don't have a floppy win98 disc but if i have to i'll find but that's not the point.I can not choose where to boot from.I have not that option in the bios. The only thing that is close to it is to boot from multibay but that doesn't work.
Clear up something for me. Is a "multibay" a removable drive attachment which allows you to use either CD or Floppy Disks as a input source in the one slot at the side of the Notebook?
When you are making your choices in the Bios Boot Order are you saving these choices before exiting the Bios?
Have you tried enabling the Floppy device to see if that makes any difference?
In normal circumstances, when your machine is working, do you have CD access?
I can't see you repairing this machine without bootable CD access unless it is one of those machines with a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive and accessed by pressing something like F10 at bootup.
Have you been in touch with your machine's help and support section?
This thread mentions a laptop adapter which might give you some way of accessing your hard drive.
Mount an unbootable NTFS drive? !!HELP!! Tough one.
