bios settings 1

hi folks. just a quicky. i have always looked at the SMBUS options in the bios as archaic in modern rigs! but the fact is i know nothing about it and can't find an explanation that means anything to me (duh!) can i assume that it has been superceded by advanced control options and ignore it? or am i missing an available enhancement?
any pointers; tutorials maybe, appreciated
