bios is not detecting my 60gig ibm hard drive! it is in the first IDE slot and ive got 2 hard drives and 2 cd rom drives.
1 hard drive (maxtor) is slave and the ibm 1 is master but bios wont detect it.
it used to work on windows me and xp. then 1 day my pc crashed while i was surfing the net so i just switched it off and it couldnt turn back on so i took all the expansion cards out and put them all back in, and my pc switched back on! but then bios didnt detect the ibm hard drive, now im using my old maxtor 7.82gb hard drive, please help someone

The only thing I can sujest is to set to auto detect in the bios.
Try a new 80 ultra cable.
Make sure jumpers are set correctly on the drive.
Clear cmos
flash bios
In that order and only if you have to.

thanks for replying!!!
ive done autodetect and all jumpers are correct. but how can i clear the bios though?

You can "clear" or reset the BIOS to its defaults in a number of ways. I recommend the third option:

1) Go into the BIOS itself and there should be either a menu option or key combination that will reset the BIOS. Usually it is displayed somewhere.

2) Using jumpers on the motherboard, you can "trip" the CMOS back to its default settings (may require you to consult the mobo manual to find the correct jumper)

3) Simply take out the CMOS battery on the mobo for a few seconds and reinsert it. Just be sure to do this with the system off and unplugged.
