I have just "upgraded" and old computer put in more memory and a slightly faster processor (a PIII 866Mhz), but since i have done it after a soft reset it will lock up at the processor detection stage of BIOS

Is the cpu compatible with your mainboard? List system details please...

it is a QDI Advance 10B MB with 1 x 512 PC133 SDR + 2 x 256 PC133 aswell as the processor mentioned above

Looking at the manual, it looks like you can set the FSB speed to 133 and the multiplier to 6.5 which gives you an 866MHz setting. However, 866MHz is not supported.

Maybe someone else can explain why this mobo does not support 866 even though it can be jumpered to support it?

Hi there, I don't know if this helps... but aren't there slight diffs in the FC-PGA and FC-PGA2 sockets? could that be the prob?

if I recall correctly the PIII 866 is a FC-PGA2 processor... and looking at the boards specs it only has FC-PGA...
