Trying to install a new 80GB drive but it isn't recognised and hangs the machine. Apparently I need an updated Bios to use drives over 34GB.

So, now I'm trying to flash the BIOS for my Giga-byte GA-BX2000 board.

I've downloaded the correct files from the Giga-byte site and set up the floppy as instucted.

as well as system files, floppy contains:-

flash864.exe and bx2000.f9 (newest bios available).

I run the Bios update with:-

A:\flash864 bx2000.f9

Everything seems to work ok until i get to the bit where the instructions say 'It will pop up a screen and asks "Are you sure you want to Flash the BIOS?"'

Instead I get the message 'Bios ID Error'.

What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like the same people I "dealt" with.

I sent them a supplementary e-mail asking for the exact details that the upgrade would give me. I also asked why it was such a high price that for an additional £20 on top of the £40 I could have a brand new board and CPU that would be supported with free BIOS upgrades.

They e-mailed back to say that they actually didn't even have an upgrade for my BIOS!

A couple of months later I got an e-mail through that said they had now developed an upgrade because of customer demand ~ it was well spec'd and the price had dropped to $24.95 (about £16).

By then it was too late to resolve the problem.

Remember that prices these days for halfway decent boards and CPU's etc are pretty low ~ it may work out cheaper to replace the board and chip.

Send them an e-mail back and see what the response is.

All the best.

Hi Guys. thanks for the posts.

Finally given up trying to flash my bios and have ordered an IDE controller card for £20 that should arrive tomorrow. Certainly not gonna pay £40 for a BIOS upgrade that's probably freely available on the net (somewhere). :)

Also heard today (after ordering my IDE controller card), that the BX-2000 motherboard has a BIOS lock that you have to disable before flashing.

Can't find any reference to this on any BX-2000 pictures/documentation, but may be of use to anyone else suffering similar problems with the BX-2000.
