Bios detects a different brand hard dive, so does the os, whats up?

Ok now this is really strange, like all of a sudden out of the blue, my bios shows that my second hard drive, is a different kind of hard drive. The size is correct in the bios, but it doesnt show the WDC 40a, it shows SDC and some other numbers. The bios shows the right size, but then Windows2000 shows only 7.58 Mb of space! Whats up with that? I cant use the EZ WD disk, because it says that the 2nd hard drive isnt a WD drive. I'm looking all over this place to find answers, but none so far.

heres my setup

Primary Controller:
Master = WD 30 gig
Slave = WD 40 gig

Secondary Controller
Master = 12x8x32 Sony burner
Slave = Pioneer 16x dvd

Win2000 NTFS

I have absolutely nothing on my 40 gig drive. I cant format it because i get an error. what i wanna kno is why is it coming up with a different size in windows2000, and why the bios says its a different brand hard drive, but shows the size of the hard drive correctly. i tried to uninstall it in windows and reinstall it, but it brings up the same hard drive, that SDC drive, which I have no idea brand that may be. its really puzzling at the moment. Any help will do, thank you.

I recommend that you go to the WD website, to the tech-support, and send them an email regarding this issue.

I can only think that the hard drive failed, partially,
and your seeing some chipset code - the SDC, information instead of the real deal - the WD chipset.

Or, you changed the bios with the NTFS,,,,,, by using some aftermarket Partion Magic, or some such.

Or,,,,,, BOOT VIRUS....... ?

WD will help you....... or give you a new hard drive.
The Catch-22 is, to get an RMA # they want the ERROR CODE that the diagnostic software will give you.

you know what I solved this problem, I know its gonna sound weird with all the things I put myself through, but the problem was simply the IDE cable. the one i had in their
was bad, I found this out when I changed it. I felt stupid at the time because its the easy things you forget to check when you troubleshoot.=P but all is well now, thanks for your reply.
