Hi,

I was checking my BIOS settings last night and I noticed that my BIOS battery voltage was 2.04v, which according to the manual is too low (it should be between 2.7 and 3.2).

Should I replace the battery immediately and if I do will I loose all of my BIOS settings??? will they all be reset when I take the battery out??

The unusual thing is that it's a brand new motherboard (VIA P4B400FL).

Does the MB have a connector for an external battery? If so, get one and plug it in w/o removing to other one. It will look like a 9v with a pigtail. TigerFlight [tiger]

Leave it alone??? what are you thinking James.
You need to replace it ASAP.
Usually Lithiam type 2023 button battery and yes 2.04volts is nackered!!
You will just have to go into the bios and reset afterwards.
Best thing is just to write down your settings by going into the bios now! then after the replacement reset the same "easy" not rocket science and no harm will become your moby. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.

Ok, it's not life threating. What I would do if I were you is go out and buy the battery (like pap said, most are model# CR2032) but don't put it in right away. Just keep it close by. If you start to have weird problems, or if your computer no longer turns on, just replace the battery at that time and you'll be fine.

Don't panic.

Why not just replace it, any kind of preventative maintenance is better than sorting it out as and when it buggers up. The battery will be cheap and it wont take more than 5 or 10 minutes to do it.

Why fight about it? Just get an external. Plug it in. No settings lost. Everyone is happy! But yes, do something. For some of us to loose bios settings is no big deal. We can just reset. Others don't usually mess with that stuff, so it is a big deal. Anyhow. Write down every setting. Just in case. TigerFlight [tiger]

Might be a good time to start your hardware book. CMOS settings are a start, but before you are done you'll have software install sequence and settings along with all the other stuff you'll need when you have to reinstall because the HD crashed. Ed Fair

Whats the big deal? Yes 2032 Lithium (going senile)
All this debate over a 10 minute job.
Do you wait for your engine to start making rattling noises before you change the oil? No, so change the battery. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.

maybe 2032. May be something else. So you open it up and find what you need and close it up.
There are at least 4 different types. Then you buy what you need. Ed Fair
