BIND not forwarding requests

I am having a problem the DNS (BIND 9.3.2) server on our network. It has no problem looking up local hosts but it will not forward requests for external hosts. For example:

# ping mail.domain.com
64 bytes from *.*.*.*: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.224 ms

but

# ping ping: unknown host
In my named.conf file I have:

forwarders {
1.1.1.1;
2.2.2.2;
3.3.3.3;
};

Also, if I use "dig" and specify the name server it is able to resolve it.

# dig @1.1.1.1
; <<>> DiG 9.3.2 <<>> @1.1.1.1 ; (1 server found)
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 55334

i don't see the forward statement.
the default is "only"
try set:
forward first;

this will make sure that the Bind server will look at the forwarders before attempting any local resolution.

not sure if that's the case but it's worth a try.


 
Tried that but it still does not work. This is driving me crazy!
 
ok . ..
what about trying to Increment debugging level by 1 to 4 using the $ rndc trace command more then once
and: $ tail -f /var/log/messages
while trying to resolve yhaoo.com (for example).

one more thing:
is your "forwarders" statement is set in the global area ?



 
I have got the same problem.

When I run nslookup

#Default Server: mymachine.mydomain.com
Address: 0.0.0.0

>

Note the Address: 0.0.0.0
