The Meridian 1 was and is truly a bullet proof product. It will be sad to see them go. It has been my career since 1991 installing and maintaining these.

Avaya has made them so expensive to upgrade everyone is jumping ship to something else. We have installed new Server Edition IPO's with all new phones cheaper than the customer can just upgrade their software and then they still have all the same old phones. Avaya is definitely trying to displace them as fast as they can. Unfortunately the IPO is quite quirky and has issue of it's own.

Come on guys, I don't work for E-MetroTel. I am friends with the team, solely because I discovered them out of curiosity. I can vouch that I am one of the biggest fans of Nortel. I worked for the phone system at Purdue while in college and a huge upgrade to a SL100. I have loved Nortel M1 ever since I was in high school and the local grocery store started using them in their stores. I seriously believe in the UCx and their UCx1000 Meridian1/CS1000 upgrade. It honestly keeps 98 percent of everything you loved about the SL1/M1/CS1000 alive. I really wish you'd take a look at it. If you really want multiple DN numbers on the phones they will work it out. I am serious, the guys on their team developed the M1/CS1000 equipment you loved. I am not bluffing. Do I need to publish a video on you tube to convince you guys? I know Cisco and Avaya are the safe bet, but these guys too have built a strong portfolio of users from large Toronto hospitals to Toys R Us stores to Universities around the world. I don't understand what the hold back is especially if you loved Nortel.

Joe is correct in saying that some of the guys are ex-Nortel lab engineers who started up the company when Avaya wrecked the Nortel products.

I know from the E-metro forum on Tek-tips that the product is sound. For me, the issue is not with the quality of E-Metro and who it is able to "blend" in the BCM and CS1K features and phones etc but more of a case that customers in general has simply lost confidence in Avaya.

The lengthy delays when 6.0 7.0/7.5 was around was what caused the rot to develop as confidence went rock bottom with engineers as well when support and reliability took a large knock.

You can't blame customers for wanting to move on. Most of us know that the older Nortel cube systems are old, but the quality of the kit in my opinion was in general very good as was with the option 11c range.

I still have customers from time to time pleading with me to see if they can have a few digital or analogue licenses added for their system as that is all they want because the Nortel kit does what it wants for them, but they don't want to pay thousands of pounds for an upgrade.

We still have a large number of Nortel / Avaya systems in the UK, but they are starting to go as Avaya is shrinking. They have pulled out at Maidenhead that was once the pride of Nortel.

The world has moved on.

As viewed by most of the comments on here, seems most of the posters on here would rather throw away their existing M1/CS1000 equipment than invest in an ideal cost effective replacement, the UCx1000 from E-MetroTel that would allow them many more years out of their CS1000 without expensive upgrades.
