I have a Windows 98SE PC which has the most up to date version of
DirectX (v. 8.0a) and it reports that my DirectDraw and DirectSound
drivers are "beta" and need to be replaced. The DirectX Diag tells me
everything is fine but I keep getting pop-up windows reminding me that
these drivers are beta and need to be updated.

I have an ATI Radeon 32 DDR AGP card running the latest drivers.

There is no newer version of DirectX to upgrade to. What do I need to
do to fix these errors? I'm not in a position to Format and
Re-install but comfortable with the WIN 98 Registry. Any ideas would help.

Are you sure you haven't downloaded the "leaked" beta 8.1?
If your version of ddraw.dll is 4.08.01.0579, you have the beta version.

You can try this site for the DirectX uninstaller:

However, I'd rename ddraw.dll to ddraw.dl_ before attempting anything. Do it after an immediate restart or you'll have to do it in DOS. Then download version 8.0 here:

The correct version of ddraw.dll needs to be 4.08.00.0400
If its higher than that, you wil continue to get the "expired" message.

Hi,

I have "a friend" who installed the leaked beta 8.1 and he is getting expired messges too.

He tried installing the latest official release but still gets expired messages.

what should he do?

PS
TWEAKFILES has gone titsup.com

ok, I have located dxunin.zip and run that, it didnt work at first so I had to boot to dos and rename the ddraw.dll as reghakr says and that works.

cheers.

Thanx for the help. I must have had the 8.1 version and the version numbers matched REGHAKR. Since the TWEAKFILES site was taken down by C-NET I had to find another site. The directxbuster app removed DX and I was able to install 8.0a.

All is fine in this part of town. Thanx again.
