What other option are you thinking of trying? Legally once Win2k was release last week, you had to stop using the Beta software (its in the beta license agreement).
I guess I'm not following what other option you are proposing... There were some changes between Beta 3 and the Released version, so it would be in your best interest to upgrade to the released version if for no other reason that its stupid to continue running on a development copy of a software package - you are just asking for trouble.
So to answer your question as I understand it, yes you need to buy the released version of Win2k to upgrade your Beta software (although I would personally install the released version from scratch and not upgrade a beta install - once again you are just asking for trouble...)
