I am new to Integration Manager. I am trying to integrate credit card expenses information in Great Plains through Integration Manager. Is it good to integrate source text file or integrate through ACCESS? Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

I have posted this question for long time. Can I get some help on Integrations. I have read in posts that it is good to start thru Sample Integrations. But I don't think we have sample integrations available in Integration Manager.
I highly appreciate if somebody can help me on this.

Thanks for all your help.

Which module do you want to integrate to? GL, AP? What version of GP are you using?

I usually use a comma delimited text file and have had no problems with that. My integrations are pretty basic.

I've heard some complaints that integrations run slowly for AR transactions especially if the source file is quite large.

we use a custom integration that was built for us by a consulting firm back for version 6.0. It runs slow because integration manager actually goes through the same logic as adding data through the screens.

is ACCESS located on the same server? i would think if you went right from ACCESS, it would save you some work.

I just got my reg keys yesterday for Integration Mgr and will be giving it a try as well. wish me luck!

I think most of ours will be csv files, but I'll play around with it and let you know my $.02.

Thanks!

Thanks to all for your input.
Sorry I did not give much detail.
PTina,
I will be using AP module and GP version is 7.5.
I have to integrate expense reports with our charged to GL accounts for employees which will be generated through Credit Card Company. Credit company can provide us text file or other format that I will integrate in GP and generate invoices for payment. what I would like to know is that do I just go through Integration Manager and create new integration and specify source and all that if I am using text file? Thanks again for your help.

beleyrs,

ACCESS is not located on the same server. We have some AR and AP integrations done through ACCESS, they are done by somebody else. We don't have any integrations through text file. I have not done any, that is the reason I would like to know which will be good to start with

I have only done Integrations from other databases, never tried a text file, outside of testing the Fixed Asset integration with 8.0.

It seems pretty straightforward though. The ACCESS integration would probably give you more power because I imagine you could have more power over querying source data, then you would say in a text file?

As far as performance, if you could eliminate the network overhead, i think you would be doing yourself a favor. If you could export to text file, then store the text file in the same location you are running IM that would be good. Or, take the .mdb access file and move it to the server...

If you have existing Integrations, I would look through them and try to identify how they are set up.

beleyrs,

Thanks a lot for your input. You are right about having more power over querying source data. I have looked through the existing integrations, it seems to be straight forward. I will see how it is when I get through the one I have to create and let you know.

Thanks,

GPUser05,

You do not have to worry about slow integrations. Use the SQL Optimized Integration adapters!

Regarding txt file vs access... do you have to format the file before importing? if so, access is the app to use, unless, you know VB code. If you know VB, you can program pre-integration scripts before you integrate the data.

The existing integrations will help you but i suspect that the integrations were developed using older technology. You may have to learn more know but it will save you tons of time in the future.

Have you downloaded the GP SDK? There is tons of info in the Kit.

good luck. contact me if you have questions.

greatplainspro,

Thanks for the info you provided. I have read about SDK in other threads also. how would I know whether it is installed and how can I get to it. Do I have to open in Great Plains window or is it like a manual? We are on GP 7.5 version. I tried to look in the folder where I have all files but did not find any.

Thanks,
