Is there a specific command in AIX that tells you how much free memory the system has available to processes? Is the fre column in vmstat the best way to go?

Thanks.

I have 8 Gb ram. svmon -G only shows 2Gb. topas, vmstat and nmon see all memory but tells bad reports about total used.

another way?

Thanks

what do you mean by "tells bad reports about total used.

run diag -a and make sure that it doens' list the memory as removed from the system.

HI,

as mentioned before,in AIX you will normally find almost mo real memory available. In topas real memory will amost always show next to zero, meaning the system will not page out the current contents unless reuired so by the processess demanding real memory.
However, vmstat foth column will show you the current number of available 4KB real memory pages - but this will change iimediately and in a very dinamic way ...

kthr memory page faults cpu
