I want to run some end of year archives that I would like to put on a set of tapes to store offsite. These tapes will be stored for little over a year and are only saved for audit purposes so chances are they will not be used until they expire and are scratched. I am basically interested in which would be the best way to go about this task. I have a few ideas which include defining an offsite storage pool and then moving the archive data to that storage pool to pull the tapes offsite but I'm not sure if this is the bes way.

Any ideas ?? Remember, this is an archive backup (full backup with long-term retention for audit purposes).

Have you considered generating backup sets?
You can create backup sets for archive data as well, read on it.

I would checkout the volumes and update the location whith information on where the volume is.
upd vol tape001 location='my drawer' ;)
Then when/if the data on the tape is requested, just checkin the volume that tsm is asking for (use q req)

I always like to have a copy stg pool for archive data.
Usually it is important data possibly it exist only on the archive tape. So use a copy stg pool for archive data.

/regards Daniel
