I'm in search of the best way to connect an old norstar 8x24 phone system with a UCx. My goal is to be able to pick up any extension on either system and dial an extension on the other remote system. I'm thinking an economically way to do this would be to put a cisco/linksys SPA-3000 on the side of the norstar. Connect the line port on the SPA-3000 to an analog port on the Norstar and assign it an extension on the norstar. Use sip to configure a trunk on the UCX which points to the SPA-3000.

To allow for outgoing calls the other direction, I could take another SPA-3000 and configure it as an extension on the UCx. I would then connect the telephone port of the spa-3000 as an incoming trunk on the norstar.

Anyone have a better idea or suggestion of how to tie the two phone systems together so you can dial extensions to/from both phone systems?

Thanks,

Brian

In all honesty, by the time you pay for all that gear, configuration time and testing, you would be better off just replacing the Norstar with a UCX Digital Gateway and truly be a single system. The DG's are relatively inexpensive these days and they have new ones coming out that are about the size of a DSM module.
