Hello,

Have a customer who has a key system, Merlin magix 4.0. The ars restriction on the last port of vmail is set to 0. Need to change it to 3 (for outcalling). I know of one way, that is to switch the system to hybrid/pbx, change the extension level to 3, then change it back to key. Problem is, all programming, at least on the phones that i know of, is lost when I change it back. Any ideas on how to do it differently or less painful?

Thanks

Since you are in KEY mode, look in extensions under Restrictions. I beleive you may also have to assign lines, with NO ring, and ALS from Intercom through the lines.

Thanks TTT. Tried that it didn't work. Extension was unrestricted, I put all the lines on that ext. used for outcalling. Did the ALS starting backward from line 10 to 1. Put my test set on line 10 and watched. The ext. would access line 10 every time. While monitoring with the test set, it accessed line 10, I heard dial tone, and it just dropped the call, every time.

That's why I seem to be forced to set them up in what we call "CUSTOM SQUARE" mode.

You set the system to Hybrid/PBX and do not assign any lines to pools (Except for 1 into the 70 pool)) and then you put all the lines on the phones, including the 70 Pool.

My problem was trying to get the VM Extensions to get that line they were assigned, and this was my only solution.

Clunky, but it worked.

So there is no way to set-up outcalling on a key system (unless you trick the system)?

I thought if you had a Key system, you could assign the lines to the last voicemail port, take the ringer off, assign als to select an intercom dial-tone first, and that would allow the system to dial-out in key mode. Of course you still need to unrestrict that port for outbound dialing as well as set that port for trunk to trunk transfer.

i haven't done this in a long time, so maybe I am remembering incorrectly.
