Best way to calculate subnets??

hey guys....

got a slight problem here, i have basically always had a problem calculating subnets , i have tried to get some documentations , but i think some one here can point me in the right directions i want to be able to lets say if i am given 100 IP's and i am told to assign a subnet for them i can do that in a flash problem is i am not sure how you come up with the subnets when given a pool of IP's could someone shed some light on this for me please.

At Solarwinds.com they have a subnet calculator, very nice, can list all ip's in a subnet and export to excel for you as well.

Cisco ConfigMaker also has a great utility for calculating subnets
