Best quality image setting for transfer?

Hello to all! And thanks in advance!

I am currently working on a cd cover project and have hit a small snag....
I did all of my graphic work in photoshop and paintshop.
It is now time for me to insert my text onto my graphics using adobe illustrator 10.
I was wondering, what is the best quality format to save my pics in paintshop x, before opening them into my templates using AI10?

This will be a professional print, using discmakers.com.

....but basically tif or eps would suffice, keeping as much type in illustrator as possible rather than a bitmap program...

...with illustrator you have the option to embed placed images or have them linked, as a rule keep them linked wherever possible as opposed to embedded. Embedded files can be relinked if necessary but it is easier to deal with if they are linked instead, .ai file size will be smaller too...

I spoke witht he rep and he said that I could just drag and drop from paintshop into illustrator....
so I opened the paintshop files in illustrator, it automatically converted for me, and I dragged them into my project.....

I imagine Illustrator picks the best quality automatically?

Illustrator will use whatever quality is brought into it. If you bring in a 72 dpi image, AI uses that. If 300 dpi (for print) AI uses that.
