Hi guys.

Is there some kind of document for best practices for SAN backups and rd devices?

Any help is welcome.

Hi,

Network bandwidth should not be your onöy consideration. Serverles backups also alow you to employ a backup server with reduced resources. If all of your backups were to run over the network your backup server would require a backplane capable of supporting the resulting throughput.

It may be possible to do all of your backups over yout production LAN and that is fine but what about recoveries? I've spent the past few years trying to convince our management that we don't need backup systems in our company. We need recovery systems and disaster recovery plans.

What do you want to acheive? Do you want to back up your system over your production LAN during off peak times or do you want to be able to recover systems when ever the need arrises? Most systems fail during peak times and require immediate recovery.
