I use the manual for PHP downloadable from this page and it is good enough when you have C syntax knowledge because it contains the function reference included and it's generally the only thing you need. I use the manual in CHM format because there is also function search feature ;-)
It will clarify all questions since you seem to be familiar with programming/database concepts as such.
I have never used a book in my learning PHP/MySQL.
I purchased the first edition of "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Luke Welling and Laura Thompson (now in Second Edition). I've been very happy with it and would definitely recommend it to someone that already has some programming experience.
However, now that I've been programming PHP for a little while I find myself using the PHP manual more and more. The book just scratches the surface of what PHP can do with MySQL, but it's a great start for a beginner.
there is a book on MYSQl and PHP its very good you can download the first 4 chapters and see if it works for you. I tried it myself being a beginner and it worked really well. GOOD LUCK.
