I've had my palm (M515) for over a year, and must admit it's very useful, however I will warn you that while some things work out well w/ a pda, others do not

The NEEDS you describe can be handled with almost any model.

I've had a Handspring Visor Deluxe for years now and it has worked well for me for all the things you list and many more. Even though it's now obsolete, it still does just about everything I want. (I wish it had color!)

One of the things I really like about the Visor is the ability to plug in modules.
I have the Visor Phone attached to mine. So now I have my Palm (Visor) and all it's capabilities and a Cell Phone that can make calls right from my Visor. This way I only have to carry one gadget.

Enough about me! Do you want the best as you say in the subject line? The Tungsten C is the latest, see how the Tungsten compares with the Zire here; If you like the idea of a phone in your Palm check out the Treo here; The new Treo 600 they are releasing looks like a great improvement. The one thing I didn't like a lot about earlier Treos is that they are much smaller. While small is good, that means the screen is also smaller. The 600 looks like they have fixed that.
The Tungsten W also has a phone in it. The downside is it only appears to work with AT&T;
The point is, any one of these models will do what you've asked for. What do you really want? How much are you willing to spend?
[soapbox]

To get started and to find out if you really want a Palm or will you even use it. You can search on eBay for Palm or Handspring and you can buy current or even older models for a lot less money. If you don't like it, you haven't spent as much money to find out.
That's what I did, started with a low-end model I got cheap. Once I was hooked, I gave that one to my wife and got the one I wanted on eBay.

just my .02 cents!

I like the Sony NX80V/U, it has color, camera, and can do wireless. I also use AgendusPro for the contact manager, work really well on the P.C. and Palm.

<< dont need another laptop . just something to download my address book , contacts , appointments , things to do everyday (organize my life a bit)>>

If you happen to maintain address book, contacts, appointments, things to do, etc on a desktop computer (as I do), you may find that the Treo 600 can manage to duplicate all that data, and allow your on private additional data. The integrated mobile phone is a great bonus.
