I'd like to deploy a wireless solution that allows clients to access Windows Server 2003 as they would on a wired-connection.

Here's the current setup:

(DSL) -> (Linksys Router) -> [Windows Server 2003] -> (10/100/1000 Switch)-> (Workstation Clients)

How do I do this? Would I just buy an access point and plug it into the Switch? My Windows Server 2003 is setup for static IPs (no DHCP).

Default Gateway & DNS Server: 192.168.2.2

I would like wireless clients to be able login to the Server just as they would if they were to be wired.

Any thoughts or proposed solutions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

Yup , an access point simply serves as a bridge. Make sure you use WPA or WPA2 encryption for data protection.

So when I get a wireless access point, such as a Linksys WAP54G:

I would specify on the AP to use the Default Gateway/DNS Server of 192.168.2.2 and give it a static IP address of 192.168.2.100?

How does the AP then work? Will it delegate IP addresses to the wireless clients?

Please advise, I'm a bit confused on the logic.

Thanks!

yes you can give it those settings, and the wireless clients will get their IP's from your wired dhcp server, as the AP serves only as a bridge between wired and wireless.

All traffic will be transferred between wired and wireless transparently.
