any suggestions for a good book on DATABASE design?

i would really appreciate it if it were platform-independent...

thanks...

ps:
someone suggested to me "Professional SQL Server 2000 Database Design" by Louis Davidson... however, since he seems to have a different philosophy (i would like the DB to be as independent from the presentation-layer) as i am, well...

platform independent, good breadth of database issues, with an obvious focus on databases for the web:

Practical Web Database Design
Auld, Kent, Limeback, Stanger, Willis
glasshaus, 2003
isbn 1904151205

the fact that i'm one of the authors has no bearing on my appraisal of the contents, eh

if you can find a copy, grab it, because glasshaus -- and sister company wrox -- have gone out of business

CJ Date is your man!

This is the standard text on database since 1970 odd. Stood the test of time!
