Greetings, all:
This may seem an elementary question, but, with so many choices, I would like to put this to a forum. I have a WinXP box, a Win2kPro box, a Win2kAdv server and a WinXP notebook that all use the same (home) network. They all run Norton AV or Norton IS bundled with AV. On 2 of the machines, the subscription is up for renewal, and I plan to upgrade because the versions I am using will soon no longer be supported. The question is, should I upgrade Norton, or is someone building a better mousetrap? I would greatly appreciate any and all input.
Many thanks in advance, and stay dry!
Andy

Hi

I've just answered another question very similar to your own.

Norton in my opinion isn't very good. It doesn't do particularly well in tests of effectiveness, and it slows PCs down quite a bit.

Uninstall it - but be prepared to search for some websites that tell you how to properly uninstall Norton, as it leaves a bit of a mess behind.

If you want a really good antivirus and firewall, go for F-Secure's Internet Security 2006 (2007 is in Beta at the moment if you want to be a brave beta tester for them!)

It uses far fewer system resources, and is more effective than Norton.

I always rely upon to tell me which antivirus package is the most effective. Norton is ranked number 22, and F-Secure is number 3. Kaspersky is number 1, and F-Secure uses the same technology, though I've never been able to work out why they don't tie first place???

I thank you all for your input - I know what I'll be doing when I get home!!

Regards,
Andy
