I use super antispyware now on my toshiba laptop. but would like a good free anti virus. any suggestions??

I was using AVG for years but the new verson would not install. Nothing would get it to install on windows 7. The microsoft one installed it self when I let it solve problems listed (Video Mainly)and has been fine since.

Never give up never give in.

There are no short cuts to anything worth doing :)

@Hawthorne

I run both MSE and AVG.

Hopefully not on the same machine at the same time!

Hi, me running successfully on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit AV with Firewall "ESET SMART SECURITY x64" almost a year. Although it is not cheap but I proved. I have tried Kaspersky, AVAST and others... AVIRA FREE or commercial is not for destruction.

I've been using vipre now for 2 years. Seems to do a great job for me. Easy to use and very little over head compared to other programs. Saved me several times. Now part of gfi they bought it was from sunbeltsoftware.

I was using AVG (paid, but... I put free on everyone's computer) until 8, and then they were sucking so much out of my system I had to get rid of it. Then I tried Vipre (eventually also registered) and that worked great for a year or so but started locking up my Vista machine so I got rid of it before the license even expired. When I bought wy new machine with W7-32 on it I went back to AVG with 9 and that seems to be working pretty good.

I like to use Panda Free ActiveScan as a hail mary when I get into tight spots, and have been thinking about whether I want to try their regular products. The nice thing about activescan is that it runs in the browser and is not usually affected by the viruses that kill the AV processes on your computer. The regular product doesn't run that way, but this one is good for emergencies and I have had it clean up a lot of junk that other stuff doesn't find.

I wouldn't touch a Symantec product even if it was free, although I have used their cleaning tools before with specific infestations.

I do run them both at the same time, and they both seem to catch different things.

I started because I was already running AVG and didn't trust MSE to do the job so I just installed it along with AVG.

I also run SuperAntiSpyware.

All I can say is I've never had a virus on my computer.
The few things that pop up always get caught on the way in.
