My BESFR41 will only make an internet connection if I configure it(WAN side) to obtain IP Auto, and no longer with our recently working,Static IP through our cable ISP.This is unusual because the router had no problems connecting with the static until a recent equipment move to the other side of the room...Hmmm.Tried firmware, router reset, power cycling,MAC cloning.I also sat on the phone with tech support, they think it might be the modem. Can the modem suddenly lose its programming like that?

In addition,I get a consistant, solid paced, fast, blinking from the ACT LED on the router, and the ENET LED on the cable modem, syncronized. This has me baffled as well.

Thanks for your help.

As posted,it is the Linksys BESFR41.Thanks.

Wow..I need to wake up sometime today...sorry.
Its a Orion A B 2000 cable modem through RR.Thanks again.

I would guess a cable issue between the modem and the router.

It has all the appearances of two devices that are finding it difficult to autonegotiate speed and duplex. The Befsr41 is (until Version 3) a 10-Half WAN connection. If the cable tests okay, place an inexpensive switch between the cable modem and the router.

I forgot to mention that prior to this problem,I had extended the cable line for the modem(RG6),about another 10 feet,so I could move the modem elswhere.Could just be coincidence though.

have you tried connecting your pc to the modem with static ip and have internet? if you will have internet connection, it means that the modem is working fine with it. so it should work with the router too. but if not, mostly it's on your router.

try this configuration:

get mac add of your main pc that will work with the modem with static ip (got msdos/command prompt type "ipconfig/all then get the physical or adapter address then go to the setup page of the router, go to advance and then mac address clone then type in the physical/adapter address) then set the router to static ip. it should work if not call linksys tech support then return the device.

and pls click this

Thanks guys.
I cannot connect period with the static, with router, and even bypassing the router.I have not yet tried placing the switch.

The only way it seems I can connect via the router is configing the router to "OBTAIN",and it will also connect over PPPOE,with no issues.

At this point it seems it is either a NIC or modem issue.I still get the strange blinking while connected to the PC only with the modem, and still no connection with static IP.

Ive been through tech support on both devices..Need I say more...Ill be contacting the ISP for yet ,another new modem.
