BER test with payload ?

1. Is it possible to configure cisco router as BERT ?
2. Is it possible to measure Bit Error Rate of a leased line simultaneously when the link is carrying payload ?
3. From the statistics report from a cisco router is it possible to measure BER ?

Yes, the BERT tests are available in most platforms, such as cat 8540, LS 1010, MGX wan switches, and also in the 2600 and 3600 platforms. Check for the command in the privilege exec mode, on the 2600 and 3600.

Thanks for that reply. I checked the link provided by you. I am not sure if I can initiate a BERT task while the link is carrying normal traffic. Can you help me on this ? Also, if you initiate a BERT on one end, how and what configurations are required at remote end of the link (like a remote loopback) ? Is it possible to issue commands to remote router to be in loop while carrying out BERT ? If so, I feel that the normal payload gets affected. Am I right in this ?
