Hi everyone, I used BEM version 62.0.5 with W-8.1 with no problem until Java 8u73 came out. With that version and all subsequent versions of java I get the same problem : B E M will not open up and I get an error message. I have to go back to an earlier java version like 8u66 to have BEM to connect again. Since some other applications I use will require the latest java version and BEM only that earlier one, I always have to uninstall one and re-install it afterwards. Did any of you find a way to make BEM compatible with the latest java version ? In my search I found I could add exceptions in the Java security but everything I tried did not help.
Thanks
Paul

Thanks Curlycord for your quick response. I did what the link requested but it did not help. First I installed Java 8u111 (but it does not mention if it is 32 or 64 BIT). I then installed the version I have that works with BEM 62.0.5 which is 8u66. I can see both in the Control Panel. I went to the Java console and made sure both versions were there and enabled. The applications requiring 8u111 do work but BEM still does not connect with the same error «could not determine the device». I tried to disable 8u111 in the console but still get the same result. I tried to reboot my PC, with same result. I tried to find the 8u66 32 BITs in the Java archive but did not find it. I would have tried with that version just in case the 8u111 was 32 BITs instead of 64. I then installed the java version 7u79 (which I assumed would correspond to the version 1.7.0_79 mentioned in the link, I made sure this version was also enabled in the java console, but still does not work. I tried again to leave only this third version enabled and disabled the other two in the java console, with the same result again. If I uninstall 8u111 and try to connect with the BEM using java 8u66, it does with no problem. Any other tip you can give me ??

Only the last paragraph in the same link above where you make changes to the file, you did not mention if you tried that.

Right now I am running:
-Windows 10 64 bit
-Java 1.80_101 32bit - Enabled
-Java 1.7.0_79 32bit - Enabled
-EM 62.0.5

64 Bit java is for 64 Bit Browsers

It doesn't matter what version of Java you are using anymore as long as the workaround trick is followed as shown below in the link.

Thanks for your intervention Firebirdscrambler, but it still did not help. To proceed with this new link you sent, I uninstalled all Java version I had active on my PC. I then re-installed the latest, since you wrote any version was good if the procedure was followed. I then opened Notepad and made the changes deleting MD5 in this « jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, MD5, RSA keySize < 1024 » and MD5withrsa in this « jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3, RC4, MD5withRSA, DH keySize < 768 ». No problem up to here. But then I tried to Save the changes as described in the procedure but the box that opened up was «Save as...». So I tried to save the file as the actual file name and it said the file name already existed. Replace Yes or No. I clicked Yes but it said «Access refused». So I then tried to «Save as» that file under another name just adding «1» at the end of it. I got an error message saying «You have no authorization to write here. Please contact the administrator to get the authorization» (this is a free translation from what I get in French). So I can't save my changes. Is this a matter of administrator rights ?? I doubt it since my PC is a personnal PC and I login as an administrator. Any other tip ?? By the way...very nice PowerPoint document. I will use it to spread the info to my customers

OK. What I did was to find the file called java.security and I think I just did a right click and either unticked the read only option or I opened it with notepad or used the Edit option.

I made the changes and saved it. You might have to save it as another name and then stop the Java service before swapping over the file with the existing one and restarting the service again.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your help. I finally had the procedure to work. All I had to do is to open NotePad as an administrator before attempting to make the changes. Doing so I could just Save the changes and it took them. I will just make that change in the PP document.
Thanks again all !!!

Hello David,

Will this procedure resolve the Java issue on my BES50FE-24T switch?

I am having problems logging in my switch because of these Java issues.

Thank

SL
