Below is how my Compaq Array Adapter is broken up. After recently adding another disk to the array and expanding it with CPQONLIN I now have free space available but I can't assign it to any pool. Ultimately I would like to create a new Pool with two volumes within that Pool.
How do I assign this free space?
Thanks in advance for any fixes for this problem.

You have to create an NSS partition on the new logical drive (Free space) first. Then you should be able to work with it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I read a Novell TID that said the same thing so I tried to create a NSS partition but it would/could not see the free space to allow me to select it. I thought maybe I already had to many partitions so I deleted the 4097MB Dh partition (it only holds my Arcserve) and tried to create a new NSS partition but when I created a partition, Console One only saw the 4097MB that was available. This is why I'm confused. I'm not sure what is going wrong and why.

I don't think it has anything to do with the number of partitions, since each logical drive (from the RAID) is seen as one disk drive to NetWare. NetWare supports a ton of disk devices, and there's no way you've reached the limit.

What did you do to generate that list of devices? The interesting thing about that list you gave us is that the all the partitions that are shown display the device, etc. Yet the free space does not list any device. I find that odd. I would expect to see something like this:

6 MB [V025-A0-D0:0-P253C] Free Partition Space

- Have you tried using the command line utility? Try "NSS MENU" from the console. (I believe you need SP3 for this to be available). See if it reports things differently.

- What do you see when you type "NSS LISTFREESPACE" from the console? Does it show up?

- Did you add the new disk(s) while the system was running? Although CPQONLIN.NLM will generally recognize the disk and allocate the space, it's better to add drive space while the system is powered off.

- Have you applied SP3 and NW6NSS3C patch, as well as Compaq's drivers and agents?

- What happens if you do a "LIST DEVICES" from the console prompt? Do you see the logical drive listed? What about after you do a "SCAN FOR NEW DEVICES"?

- When you added the new drives(s), what is your logical drive structure? I'm assuming that it created a new logical drive. It may help to know what your logical drive structure is exactly... Is it One (1) large logical drive covering the entire RAID structure, or several smaller logical drives that have been created as a result of drives being added after the original setup.

Just some thoughts..

Marvin,
I can't thank you enough for all your help! Your last comment of your last reply was the tip I needed.

- "It may help to know what your logical drive structure is exactly..."

From the console I went back into CPQONLIN and realized this whole problem was an over-site on my part. The "space" was available but I had not created a logical drive out of it. I created a logical drive and initialized the drive making the space available through Console One. I then created a Pool and Volume for the entire amount of space (for on-line archiving) and I am moving data to the volume as I type this. Again, thanks for all your thoughts and for taking the time to respond!
