Cannot get the linksys to work with the Westel DSL modem. I have tried all the solutions that Linksys shows on the support site. Cannot connect to server pppoe.
Can it be done? Or will I have to purchase their router?
It shouldn't be a problem as far as I know. I recently had SBC DSL and had no problems using PPPoE. Your ISP may have some kind of mechanism in place to reject the router. It might save you some time to contact your ISP's tech support and ask them. Generally, they'll tell you they don't support it, but at the very least, they can tell you whether it will or won't work with the DSL modem.

My Linksys model is the BEFSR81 ver2. I called the ISP and they would not give any support or tell me if it will work. It is not on their list of third party routers that will work with their system.
When you open up the Status Tab:"Cannot Connect to PPPoE Server" is the message, right?
We are aware that Bellsouth is using a PPPoE Connection. If your connection type is set using "PPPoE",and it's giving you "Cannot Connect to PPPoE Server".You have to:
1.Change the LAN IP from 192.168.1.1 to 10.10.10.1 using
an "Obtain an IP Automatically" and press Apply.
2.Go to the Status Tab and notice that you already have
your own DNS number using 192.168.1.x
3.Copy down the DNS and the Internet/WAN MAC Address
4.Go to the DHCP Tab and put the DNS Numbers on the DNS
1,2 and 3 then hit the Apply button.
5.Go to the Advance Tab up on the top bar, then select
MAC Addr.Clone and put the MAC Address manually then
hit the apply button.Minimize the window, then try to
open another Explorer window and then verify the
Internet Connection.If no Connection:
5a.Shut the Computer Down,Unplug the power cable of the
router and the modem for 30 secs.
5b.After 30 secs,plug the modem back in,wait till all
the lights on the modem to stop blinking, plug the
router in and turn the PC back On.Make sure you are
not running any firewall or Antivirus Software on
your Computer.
Just post your reply here,alright?Goodluck!
do you use a crossover cable? if so, it should go between the router and dsl modem. i accidently switched the crossover with a straight cable and lost dsl. just a thought.
Well seems you've tried all the other stuffs the techies provided: 205.152.37.254 & 205.152.0.5 into the DHCP tab and specify these DNS. Make sure that you are in Obtain an IP Address Automatically. After doing this stuff, try to do a power cycle.
hi....please try this on the linksys set up page...change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1....and then set the WAn connection type to OBTAIN AN IP AUTOMATICALLY...then restart the computer...after that just lauch the internet explorer...see if that one will work...
