I am trying to hook up an external bell to an analog port of our IP Office 406 V2. The bell I am using an a Wheelock UTA-1 .

I am hooking up the bell wiring to the same telephone jack as the analog phone. When I hook the bell up, It starts ringing on it's own and does not stop. (Their is no incoming call to the analog ext). The quality of the analog phone drops off a good deal (echo, noise etc) when the external bell is ringing. I am assuming that the bell is stealing the off-hook voltage when it keeps ringing

The UTA-1 support 4 voltages and I have tried the three that seem the most reasonable and get the same result (24 VAC, 24 VDC & 48 VDC, The other is 90 VDC)

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I beleive the ring voltage is 40 volts AC at 20 hertz.
The tip and ring voltage is about 48 volts DC.

Have you tried putting it into its own analogue port and twinning it.

Do you have overhead paging, and VMPRO? If so, you can just make things ring over paging via a VMPRO call flow. With seperate ring tones per each call flow.

I got one to work on the 90v setting attached to an analog port on an IPO.
