Hello,

I have a Belkin Wireless Router 54g F5D7230-4 which is attached to 2 wired pc's, 1 wireless pc and 1 wireless notebook. Using Windows XP on all computers.

I have been able to set up the ADSL internet sharing OK, but I have not yet managed to get file sharing working.

When I view workgroup computers it tells me that the workgroup is unavailable. you may not have permission to use this resource. contact administrator blah blah.

All PC's have previously been on the same network. I have ensures that Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Priner Sharing ar installed. The computers all have the same workgroup name on them.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong. I've racked my brain for weeks, followed all the instructions I can find, but to no avail.

thanks

Unfortunately I use Win XP Home, not Pro so I cannot follow those instructions. Thanks for the help, but is there anything else I can try?

The basic checklist:

. Computer names unique, Workgroup names identical;
. Real username and password logons; no blank or empty passwords, no hitting Esc or otherwise avoiding the logon;
. Something shared on all machines, file, folder, printer, drive, something;
. It makes it easier in Windows to have all users of computer A made users with passwords of Computer B, and vice-versa;
. No firewalls. Disable all firewalls including the native XP firewall ICF. You can add these later when everything is working with a lot of attention to the details of how not to interfere with your LAN;
. Share permissions on a shared resource should include the Group Everyone, and the user Guest (with XP Home); make certain that NTFS Security permissions are in agreement (see the link below);

is there anything else I can try?

It's too bad you stopped reading the original practicallynetworked link posted so quickly. In the 3rd paragraph on that page was a link to Simple File Sharing which is what Win XP Home uses. The link bcastner provided brings it up. Check it out.
